Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy: Supporting Women’s Health at Every Stage of Life

At Moreton All Body Care, we understand that women experience unique physical challenges throughout their lives—from pregnancy and childbirth to menopause and beyond. Many of these changes can impact the bladder, bowel, and pelvic floor, leading to conditions that affect quality of life, confidence, and daily function.

It’s estimated that 1 in 3 Australian women experience urinary incontinence, and many more suffer from pelvic floor dysfunction, prolapse, or pelvic pain. The good news is that women’s health physiotherapy offers effective, evidence-based treatment to manage and improve these symptoms—often without the need for invasive procedures or medication.

Common Conditions We Treat with Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Our experienced physiotherapist conducts comprehensive pelvic health assessments and tailors individualised treatment plans to support women with:

  • Stress incontinence

  • Urgency and overactive bladder

  • Pelvic floor dysfunction

  • Pelvic organ prolapse

  • Pelvic pain

  • Pregnancy-related back and pelvic dysfunction

  • Post-caesarean rehabilitation

  • Rectus diastasis (abdominal separation)

  • Post-gynaecological surgery rehabilitation

  • Safe exercise guidance during and after pregnancy

What to Expect at Your Women’s Health Physiotherapy Appointment

Before your first visit, you’ll receive a detailed questionnaire covering bladder, bowel, and sexual health. These insights help us understand your symptoms, history (including childbirth), and how your condition affects your quality of life.

At your consultation, your physiotherapist will discuss your concerns and goals and perform a thorough physical assessment. This may include a pelvic floor examination, which is the gold standard for assessing muscle function and identifying issues like prolapse, scarring, or muscle weakness. If you’re uncomfortable with an internal examination, alternative assessment methods are available.

Your initial session will last approximately 60 minutes, with follow-up appointments typically lasting 30–45 minutes. You will leave with a clear understanding of your condition, a tailored pelvic floor exercise program, and support strategies for recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an internal examination?
Only if clinically appropriate and with your informed consent. You may decline or stop at any time.

Can I bring my baby to my appointment?
Yes! We aim to make our services as accessible and family-friendly as possible.

Can I attend during my period?
Yes. Internal exams can be conducted during menstruation if you’re comfortable, or external options can be used.

How soon should I attend after childbirth?
A pelvic floor check is recommended at six weeks postpartum, regardless of whether you had a vaginal or caesarean delivery.

I’ve already had a pelvic exam with my doctor—do I need another?
Yes, if you’re seeing a physiotherapist. Their focus is on muscle function, coordination, and tissue recovery, which differs from medical examinations.

Can I claim with private health insurance or Medicare?
Yes. Private health insurance rebates are available. We also accept GP referrals under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Plan—please note there may be a gap fee.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?
Please provide at least 24 hours' notice to avoid a cancellation fee of $50.
