Vestibular Physiotherapy

Vestibular Physiotherapy for Dizziness, Vertigo, and Balance Issues

Vestibular disorders—such as dizziness, vertigo, and balance problems—can significantly disrupt your daily life. A common cause of these symptoms is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), a condition where tiny calcium crystals in the inner ear become dislodged, affecting your sense of balance.

At Moreton All Body Care, our experienced vestibular physiotherapists specialise in diagnosing and treating BPPV and other vestibular conditions to help you regain balance, reduce dizziness, and improve your overall quality of life.

What is BPPV?

BPPV causes short, intense episodes of vertigo, typically triggered by head movements such as:

  • Rolling over in bed

  • Looking up or down

  • Bending over

This occurs when dislodged calcium particles (otoconia) move into the inner ear’s semicircular canals, sending incorrect balance signals to the brain. While BPPV is not dangerous, it can increase your risk of falls and interfere with everyday activities.

How We Diagnose and Treat Vestibular Conditions

Our physiotherapists follow a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to identify and manage vestibular disorders:

1. Symptom History
We begin with a detailed assessment of your dizziness or vertigo episodes, including when and how they occur.

2. Vestibular Testing
Using tests such as the Dix-Hallpike manoeuvre, we assess for signs of nystagmus (involuntary eye movement) and determine whether BPPV is present.

3. Differential Diagnosis
We may perform additional assessments of your balance, gait, and eye movements to rule out other conditions like vestibular neuritis, Meniere’s disease, or vestibular migraine.

4. Individualised Treatment
If BPPV is diagnosed, we provide targeted vestibular physiotherapy techniques to reposition the crystals in your inner ear and relieve symptoms—often with fast and lasting results.
